Dr. Layne J. Harpine, grew up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in a small eastern panhandle West Virginia town located in the Capon Valley. His father was a long-term United Methodist Church lay leader directing worship services each week and his father-in-law was the Sunday School Superintendent at the same country UMC for over 65 years. His mother and mother-in- law were long term members of The United Methodist Women and UMC church. While growing up, every Sunday and many nights during the week were spent in one of those country United Methodist churches sprinkled across those country hillsides.
Pastor Layne has come to appreciate and recognize the persistent presence of the Holy Spirit and God’s mission for his life. He hopes to emulate and inspire that we show up as the best version of ourselves, bring our authentic struggle and effort, use all our gifts in faithful service to God in aiding all God’s people.
Pastor Layne lives across the bridge on Emerald Isle with his wife Annette which he has known his entire life. They have lived in the Crystal Coast Carolina area for over 20 yrs and now call this home. They have two children, Nathaniel (20) and Amani (18). He enjoys traveling, mountain stream trout fishing, carpentry, pickup basketball games, golfing, lifting weights, watching sports, dressing up in character for the kids, and singing in the church contemporary praise band. He is a mountain man at heart, doesn’t like the sand but occasionally you will see him walking the beach hand in hand with Annette.
